In all the years that I have run my own business worked and as a medium the first thing I have had to do is make a commitment to myself that I will do the work as a medium, whatever the obstacles, and that I will honour my commitment as a company leader to my employees and my customers. Maybe some people think I am old fashioned, but a promise is a promise. For me not to be able to honour a commitment has either meant that I have been very sick or one of my children has been very sick and has needed me.
Along the way I never know what the problems are going to be, what the obstacles are going to be or what to expect – that is life. For me problems are there to be solved, not to back off from or run away from. When faced with a problem that is when we have to use our creativity to find a solution so that we can move on, but we now live in an age where commitment in many respects seem to be a thing of the past.
Many want so much for themselves, but are not ready to give it themselves and to sacrifice time or whatever it takes to honour the commitment they have made to themselves or to others. Then I hear them say: “Nothing ever happens in my life.” They seldom realise that the fault lies with them. Words that I also often hear are: “Spirit do not help me” or “Why are they not helping me solve my problems?”, but how can they when we cannot honour our commitment that we have seemingly made to them? It is not spirits function to serve up everything on a plate. We must work for it too, we must play our part.
’’God gave us a brain to decide and think for ourselves, and find solutions.
There has been many times in my life when a lot has been happening that has neither been conducive to my work as a medium or to my life and yes, I have wanted to give up and take the easy way out of it, but what would that have solved? Nothing. The result being, I would just end up at square one. Without the tests life sends us we would not grow, but remain trapped in a vortex of our own creation. God gave us a brain to decide and think for ourselves, and find solutions. If we act accordingly we are not abandoning the spirit or the God that we believe in, but if we do not honour our commitments or keep a promise we turn our backs on life and ourselves.
The words I write may sound harsh, but what I write for me is a reality based on life experience. That higher intelligence we call God can show us the way, but we must play our part too. For example, many people who have either been in financial or emotional chaos have come to me over the years to have a medium consultation and many of them created the situation they found themselves in. It all goes back to personal responsibility.
You may think: “How is it so easy for Terry?” It has not always been easy. I have too at times wanted to ignore the realities which I am facing, but when a promise is made I believe it must come from the heart, it must carry a meaning. The meaning I understand comes in two words: Love and respect. When you break a promise you dishonour yourself and there is no other you can blame. When you walk away and break your promise you leave someone else to clean up the mess that you leave in your wake.
In my world there is only one exception: when the unexpected happens that gives you no choice.
I think it would be very interesting if those of you that read this article share your memories or experiences of when you have found yourself in similar situations. Did you find a solution or did you just turn your back and walk away?
