Whether we believe in God in an orthodox sense, i.e. religion, or through a personal belief that is not connected to any form of ideology, the following questions remain: Why do we pray? How are we offering our prayers and with what attitude?

The God or higher intelligence that I believe in receives prayer regardless of who is praying, regardless of class or creed or beliefs – as long as it is a prayer that is offered with an open heart and humility. I can cast my mind back over the years and remember the times, that I was instructing God how I wanted things to be, without realising it. Sometimes it could almost take the form of a shopping list. Unfortunately, it was not so often that I could find what was on the shopping list. The instructions I gave were very rarely met. It would leave me with the thought: Is God listening to me? Why does that intelligence not respond as quickly as I want, why do I have to wait? I do not have the time to wait. I want the answer now!”

For many years I had blinkered vision, I could not see what was around me. Slowly I began to understand that maybe I was not offering my prayers in the right manner. If there is a higher intelligence, that higher intelligence surely must already know everything about me, who I am and where I am in my life, at any given time. Therefore, it should be aware of my strengths and weaknesses, both past and present.

I started to develop a new approach. It took some time, the process is still ongoing. I started the practice to offer prayer without demand or expectation. I had to learn to develop trust. With each day I am hopefully taking away more and more of this blinkered attitude. The only thing I should be asking of that higher intelligence is their truth, and not my own.

“I believe that the higher intelligence will take us forward and help us discover what is right and natural for us as an individual, without conditions.

It gives much more freedom and space to move and expand when you throw your “shopping list” away. Let the higher intelligence into your prayers, by trusting that intelligence to bring about the changes that you need. Simply step back and be ready to accept, unconditionally.

However, the urge for us human beings to demand and control does not always allow us to accept the helping hand of humility. Humility is a great mind opener and takes us to all solutions that hitherto have been beyond our understanding. I believe that the higher intelligence will take us forward and help us discover what is right and natural for us as an individual, without conditions.

Just help me follow my truth.
Help me find what is right for me to make me become more aware of myself.
Help me become more aware of the special pearls that you offer. I realise that they can supply my every need.
Help me to be open enough to receive the nourishment to function in my life.

My prayers are not just offered for my own benefit. Of course, I also offer prayers for those who are in need and those who need guidance and support through times of trial and tribulation.

Terry Evans interest in parapsychology and mediumship began at an early age. His first encounter with an actual spiritualist medium came at the age of 22, when he was given his first private consultation by a medium. The effects of that experience were to prove to be a turning point in his life, offering new realisations. These realisations motivated Terry to develop his own inner potential of mediumship and intuition.
