Something that is very important for me in my work as a medium is to show spirit respect, that I am part of their team. It may sound a little old fashioned, but without that spiritual network what would I be? That is why I always say it is important to ask for permission before you work and to say thank you afterwards. Every time I open up to spirit I do not take them for granted. I recognise that for me to do my work properly I cannot do it without them. Every time I work as a medium it is not the Terry Evans show, it is your evening and spirits evening, I am just the connector.
Going from one course to another, that is not experience. As I have said before, courses just give you information and new tools and when you have acquired those tools it is your personal responsibility what you do with them, how you use them. Collecting diplomas and such like, just states that you have attended courses and received information. That is all. It is how you carry yourself with clients and people and so on that makes a difference. Personal contact, communication and respect is an integral part of working with people and for spirit.
There are those that go too quickly. They begin to run before they have learnt to walk. It shows quite clearly, and it is a lack of patience on the mediums or the healer’s part. Slow down. More haste, less speed. You are giving spirit more room to come through if you are going forward slowly and yourself an opportunity for more enlightenment. Is it not important to respect yourself? In my own life I have noticed if I go too quickly as a person or a medium things can go wrong. We lose contact with ourselves, and what happens to humility then? Has ego taken over? It is easy to forget when we are receiving praise from a client that it is not just about us, it is about the organisation of spirit that we work for. Are you working for money or are you working for spirit? Are you working to be loved and worshipped? Or do you allow room for the organisation of spirit to come through uninfluenced? If we do this work to feed our ego, eventually we will get lost and the spirit aspect within us will be shut down.
Many of the things I have talked about I have made the same mistake myself. At the same time the mistakes I have made I have realised have been gifts, once I have had the humility to accept them and the lesson in the offing. Mistakes are an opportunity, but if not acknowledged we shut the door to something that will enable us to move forward.
What does this touch within you? What does it remind you of? Does it give you an opportunity for self-examination? In writing this text I just offer you my own experiences of the good days I have had and the bad days. No medium gets it right all the time, but I think it is our personal responsibility to recognise when this happens and not expect spirit to fix everything for us.
Recognition comes in the most unlikely way and at the most unexpected time. Spirit will show when they are happy with the way you are working, and if you are in touch with yourself you will recognise when they are not so happy. I can remember my early days when Ascala said to me: “As you follow your road I will be with you. I am there to point out when you have crossed a line and made a mistake. I will be there to support you when times are hard, but if you feel that you can no longer acknowledge the input we can give you then you have closed the door to us and we cannot come through.”
If I had not made mistakes and learnt from them I do not think I would be where I am today.
So, do we work for spirit or to serve our own ego?
