I would like to go back to the time when my journey started. I remember when I first went to a medium and that he gave me some excellent proof. I remember how I shortly after joined a medium development group. I was euphoric, I could not get enough and during this period it was paramount in my thoughts, my daily life. A whole new world had opened up to me.

It took time for me to come down from the clouds, but then I realised that the only way I could really benefit from the education was to take my time. The quicker I went, my ego took over and I was losing contact with the new friend I had made, which I was later to understand was Ascala, my guide. In those days I was much younger and in some ways naïve.

It is so important not allowing this to take your life over, it should just be a part of your everyday life.  If you want to keep good contact with spirit, do not go to fast. They will send you the opportunity quite clearly when you are ready for it, you will not have to search for it.

In the early stages of being a medium it is wonderful to hear that what you said is correct, as I said a whole new life begins within. Whatever you feel about spirit, your job is not to give everybody advice or tell them how to live their lives. That is not spirits purpose. That is what a lot of inexperienced mediums get dragged into, believing it is their job to rescue other people.

Do not become emotionally involved in the clients life. The biggest task in the beginning is to remember that you are just a neutral channel and your task is just to pass on the information that you receive from a spirit contact, whether it is as a medium or a healer, without it becoming affected by your own thoughts, or demands that other people make on you.

Your spirit guide already knows everything about you, it all sounds very simple, but what has helped me keep my feet on the ground is just to be Terry and not to allow myself to lose my identity. When I allow myself to be just a neutral channel on behalf of spirit that is far more effective than trying to solve everybody’s problems or answer their questions. That is not my job, but so many mediums and healers fall into this trap and that can be harmful to them. They can end up being emotionally burnt out.

After I came out of that euphoric state, I begun to realise that the quickest way was just to take one day at a time and learn the mechanics of what I was working with, the dos and the don’ts. Perhaps find yourself in the same place. If you decide that you want to learn these things find a good teacher that is honest and does not give you the impression of knowing everything, a teacher that keep you grounded and points out to you when you are making a mistake and are in danger of falling into traps – just because you are too eager.

I would also like to point out, if you find yourself in this euphoric state that I speak of, everything you feel and see does not always come from a spirit contact. After all these years I have learned the difference, what comes from me, from another person’s mind, what is coming from the house – if I am doing an investigation, or what is truly coming from a spirit. But it has taken some years in working out what is what, but it certainly makes my life much easier.

Spirit made me a promise many years ago. They said if you are honest and keep it clean as a channel there will always be work for you. I have done my utmost to follow those guide lines, there have been occasions when I have struggled a bit. One thing I have to remind myself every day of is not to make myself bigger than I really am. Spirit kept their promise and has, up until this moment in time, taken me on an incredible journey. Not just to develop as a medium, but also as a human being and for that I am eternally grateful.

Terry Evans interest in parapsychology and mediumship began at an early age. His first encounter with an actual spiritualist medium came at the age of 22, when he was given his first private consultation by a medium. The effects of that experience were to prove to be a turning point in his life, offering new realisations. These realisations motivated Terry to develop his own inner potential of mediumship and intuition.
