Now that we are in a lock down, in one way it has had a very positive effect on me. What is also helping is the decision of selling the course centre and all the work that goes with it; clearing out, sorting out and so on. As we have been going through old papers it has been like being taken back to the past, to the day we began working here in the school. This has brought back memories of joy; I have thought about all the people that have come through these doors. I have been so lucky, in having met so many interesting people, from many walks of life. This school has given me unforgettable experiences. It has been a privilege to see all these people finding aspects of themselves they never could have believed existed.
Since I had to close the school, I have had time to catch up with myself and to get an idea of where I am now. I realise that I have changed in many ways. I am not the same person as I was when I bought the school. My hopes for the future are becoming stronger. I am getting much sharper clarity. The Terry Evans I was 15 years ago is not the same today. What a journey it has been! The challenges and the experiences of owning Gamla Byskolan has helped me grow too. It has been a beautiful experience that I will never forget.
“I have to say to Ascala and spirit: Thank you for bringing me here!
This time has opened my eyes and given me the opportunity to see and feel and reconnect with myself. It has opened up new doors. Being in Fanthyttan for 15 years has given me so much. To live in this beautiful place, when the garden awakens from it slumber or when it goes back into hibernation in the autumn… I have to say to Ascala and spirit: Thank you for bringing me here! Gamla Byskolan has been a place of joy and laugher. The students, to see them find their special moment of realisation, when they have discovered new things about themselves – What joy it has given me!
I have had my good days and my bad days. Somethings things we plan do not work out, but this old lady has taken good care of me. She welcomed me with open arms and has shown me beauty through the people that has come here. I have often heard: “Every time we return to Fanthyttan it is like coming home”. That memory will stay with the students for the rest of their lives, because of what the school offered them. It has helped them discover their own inner home, a heart that beats to another rhythm. I can say this to you who have visited the school, you have helped her old heart beat again too, by what you have given with love.
When we have worked with Barnens Röst on the summer camps, and special days for children. It has been so good to see the children play together with their parents. It is almost as if the old lady wants to thank you all for coming here and bringing new life to the school. It is now as if she is saying farewell of you all.
I prepare myself for whoever may come next. I hope it is someone with a purpose to use the school to help people. My wish is that whoever buys the school will use it for children once again. Time will tell.
